Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 Review

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 is a true gaming GPU designed for every PC gamer. Transform your PC into a gaming rig that rivals any game console to enjoy fast and responsive MOBA gaming and the latest games in 1080p. Powered by NVIDIA Maxwell™ architecture and delivers 3x the performance of previous-generation cards.

This is probably the cheapest graphics card from Nvidia’s latest series of GPUs, but the Nvidia GeForce GTX 950’s budget status can be misleading – this is one of its most intriguing new products to date.

The GTX 950 is the first card I’ve seen designed for a particular genre of game. This Nvidia core targets the burgeoning MOBA and 1080p gaming categories. Nvidia says it’s got tweaks that can improve performance in titles like DOTA 2, League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm.

Overview

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 is a mid-range graphics card for desktop PCs. It is based on the 28nm Maxwell GM206 chip and offers 768 pixel shaders, 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The graphics memory is typically 2 GB GDDR5 with 6.6 GHz effective and a 128-bit interface.

As a novelty compared to the previous Maxwell GM204 chip, the GM206 includes the new VP7 video engine with HVEC (H.265) decoding and encoding. Furthermore, the GTX 950 supports HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 for 4K video output.

The 3D gaming performance of the GTX 950 is slightly better than the GeForce GTX 965M (33% more shaders but slower clock speed).

KEY FEATURES

  • 1,024MHz core clock
  • 2GB 6,610MHz GDDR5 memory
  • 2.9 billion transistors
  • 768 stream processor
  • requires 1 x 6-pin power connector
  • Manufacturer: Nvidia

Positive and Negative Impacts Of GTX950

Pros

  • Consistent, impressive 1080p performance
  • MOBA-friendly features throughout
  • Faster than AMD Radeon R7 370

Cons

  • Can’t quite manage 1440p playback
  • 2GB of memory could prove restrictive

Game Suggestions

  • Assasins Creed Unity
  • Battlefield 3
  • Battlefield 4
  • COD Advance Warfare
  • Bioshock Infinite
  • Dead Rising 3
  • Far Cry 4
These are one of the few games that I tried at 1080p on my nvidia GTX 950 and they ran smoothly without any errors or lags this just proofs that the card even though cheap can still pack quite a punch when it comes to gaming . so if your under a tight budget I’d recommend the GTX 950 for you .

System Suggestions

GeForce GTX 950 2GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a Performance Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.

Verdict

Nvidia GeForce GTX set out to build an affordable 1080p card with the GTX 950, and it’s an undoubted success: It’s faster than the R7 370 in almost every benchmark without costing any more, and it’s even got the grunt to handle some games at 1440p. Many of Nvidia’s software features are designed to aid MOBA players, but this card has the performance to excel with any genre at Full HD. The  Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 is the market leader when it comes to affordable 1080p GPUs.
